A new meaning to 'window shopping'

Updated: Aug 31, 2020

The independent shops, restaurants, bars and salons in St Albans are to become the first retailers in the UK to trial a new technology designed to help both shops and shoppers during this challenging time.

Contactless Window Shopping is the brainchild of marketing consultant Jez Dutton from design consultancy That Happy Place and has been created using near field communications (NFC) technology. It involves placing tags in shop windows that shoppers can scan using their smartphones. This gives customers the opportunity to buy products, view menus, book appointments and access information about services without having to step foot inside the premises!

The technology is designed to help nervous customers feel safer when they are shopping and to give retailers with small shop spaces the capacity to accommodate more shoppers.

If you see something that catches your eye in our window and would like to make a private appointment to browse safely, scan our tag to book a convenient time, or leave us a message if you would like more information about specific products. You can even arrange a Zoom appointment with us!
