Re-launched in 2015, this 250 year old business specialises in precious jewellery and affordable luxury watches.
Jago offers a complete jewellery and watch service to the local community. From refurbishing pre-loved heirlooms to choosing the perfect new gift, Jago is there for you. An independent, local business for hundreds of years, we are an integral part of the interesting and unique fabric of the St Albans High Street that we all know and love!
Owner, David spends a lot of time in the shop, he is a watch and jewellery expert and enjoys sourcing vintage pieces. Some of them find their way into the Jago collections and are available to buy. The mix is unique in town.
W.J Jago - Established 1750
Established in the 18th Century, W.J.Jago Jewellers has been at the heart of St. Albans High Street for over 250 years. Serving the public with one of a kind bespoke jewellery and lovingly chosen collection pieces, as well as repairing and restoring precious heirlooms.
Our rich history includes creating James Cook's widow a personalised mourning ring. We are dedicated to doing justice to our past while embracing the future with state of the art jewellery design and repair to suit modern consumers.
More recently we were recognised by the jewellery industry's prestigious 'Inspiring Independent's' awards.
In 2019 we were a finalist for the Best New Jewellery Retailer, having taken a business that was due to close, back from the brink, to fulfil its pivotal potential at the heart of the St Albans community.
The Gillow family took the reigns of Jago in 2015. Bringing with them a long family history of jewellery, both in retail and manufacturing. Before that the business had been in the capable hands of Keith Chard who took over from the original Jago family and steered the business for 20 years.
Sarah and David continue on the family legacy and between them benefit from over 50 years of combined experience in the jewellery and watch industry. The Gillows gave Jago a lifeline, because of their love and care, Jago is once again a business that is thriving in the close-knit community of St Albans.
Positioned on the High Street, Jago has immersed itself into the hustle and bustle of the community, with customers, and with fellow business owners. Often hosting seasonal and collaborative events within the town, contributing to local charities and taking the business to wedding exhibitions, Jago goes above and beyond.
The best way to protect your jewellery in the event of loss or damage is to insure it - and this requires a valuation to make sure you receive the correct sum in the event of a claim.
Selling gold to Jago couldn't be easier. We’ll buy all kinds of gold items, and it doesn’t matter if they’re broken, beaten up or missing pieces. Just pop into the shop or make an appointment.
